Android 7.1.2 Nougat for Moto G4 Plus and Moto G4

Motorola Moto G4 Plus and Moto G4 are updated to Android 7.0 Nougat recently. Some rumours are saying that Motorola is going to upgrade G4 series directly to Android 7.1.2 without Android 7.1. So the next big update for these mid-rangers from Motorola might be Android 7.1.2. Recently Google unveiled the Final build of Android 7.1.2 for Nexus and Pixel devices. Previously, Google released the Android 7.1 Update in October, 2016 and Android 7.1.1 update in December, 2016.

1. Improved Fingerprint Gesture

Google introduced the Fingerprint Gesture feature with Pixel and Pixel XL flagships. With this feature user can check notifications by just swiping down on the fingerprint sensor. Later the Search giant refined the feature much with Android 7.1.2 Developer Previews. So now this elegant feature is working faster and accurate.

android 7.1.2 fingerprint gestures

With the final build of Android 7.1.2, the fingerprint gesture feature arrived to Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices. So it may also to other Android flagships with the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update.

Users can activate the Fingerprint Gesture feature by going into the Moves menu in Settings. Google may improve much this feature in the Android O update.

2. Battery Usage Alerts

Battery usage alerts is a new feature came with the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update. Users can view by clicking the battery usage alerts option in the top right overflow menu of the Battery Section in Settings. Battery usage alerts of Android 7.1.2 displays the list of apps which are draining the battery more than usual. Normally, this list is empty immediately after installing the update. This list will reset after charging the device battery fully.

Although this is a small addition to android OS, it gives some useful information about the apps with heavy power usage and helps to save the battery. This feature may be refined in future android releases.

3. Elegant Live Wallpaper Setting

Previously with Android Nougat, the Search Giant unveiled inbuilt Live wallpapers feature. But till now, users had to use stock live wallpapers for both lock screen and home screen. Now Google introduced a refined live wallpaper setting with Android 7.1.2.

With the new setting, users can set live wallpaper for both lock screen and home screen or only home screen. So users can apply live wallpaper for home screen and static wallpaper for lock screen. The new live wallpaper setting can be applied for stock live wallpapers and also downloaded live wallpapers apps from playstore.

4. Network indicator in status bar

The Network indicator in status bar when in Roaming is minor refinement of the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update. Previously, Android don’t display the type of Network connection (like LTE, 3G, Edge) when the network is in Roaming. Now in Android 7.1.2, Google made some changes to the network icons in status bar. So the refined Status bar of Android 7.1.2 displays both Roaming icon and type of network with Signal icon separately.

5. Bug Fixes

It is already known that Pixel and Nexus devices which have upgraded to Android 7.1.1 Nougat suffered from the Bluetooth bug. But the Bluetooth bug and other bugs like occasional UI hangs, Audio popping issues are fixed in the Android 7.1.2 update. The User interface is working fluid like in Android 7.1.2 Nougat without hanging. Various security bugs are fixed in this update. Some Wi-Fi bugs are also fixed and the stability of Wi-Fi is improved.

Google also fixed the early Shutdown bug in this update. Many Pixel users reported that the bug has gone and their devices are working perfectly. General connectivity is also refined in this update. But some upgraded Pixel and Nexus 5X and 6P devices are showing quick battery drain and wrong battery calibration after updated to Android 7.1.2. Tech experts are saying that these issues will disappear automatically after a few days.

6. Enhanced Notification Stability

Previously with Android Nougat and Android 7.1.1 updates, Google improved Notifications and quick setting toggles much. With the latest update, the Search giant brought another refinement to Notifications.

In the Android 7.1.2 change log, Google mentioned about the increased notification stability. So notification stability has improved in Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Probably due to this refinement, notifications appear quickly and also smoothly in Android 7.1.2 devices. More details about this refinement will be revealed soon.

Fingerprint sensor bug is the major problem of Android 7.1.2. In some of the upgraded Nexus 5X, 6P and Pixel devices Fingerprint sensor is not working to unlock the device. But swipe down on fingerprint sensor to see notification feature is working fine on these devices.

Google may provide a special patch for this bug in the near future according to tech experts.

Android 7.1.2 Nougat for Moto G4 release date

Moto G4 Android 7.1.2 soak test may start in May or June. Final rollout of Android 7.1.2 may start in June 2017 for Moto G4 in July.

Update on 04/09/2017 :

Motorola started the rollout of the Android 7.1.1 update for only Moto G4 Play devices in Brazil and some other regions in June. It seems that Motorola merged Android 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 versions and began the rollout. The update also includes some of the features of Android 7.1.2. But there is still no sight of the Android 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 update for Moto G4 Plus and G4. So it seems that Motorola bumped these updates to Android 8.0. Thus, there might be no Android 7.1.2 update for Moto G4 series.

The next update for the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus devices is Android Oreo. The release dates of Android Oreo for Moto G4 and G4 Plus will be announced by Motorola soon.

I think you have disabled inbuilt apps of Motorola so you need to refresh the phone from the recovery options. It’s just one step thing

Just checking on YouTube ‘ how to factory reset the phone from recovery option’

Somehow I doubt the G4 will be getting Android 8. Probably not even 7.11 or 7.1w from 7.0, in the US.
