Moto G6 Plus Specs, Features, Price and Release Date
The G6 Plus is the successor of Moto G5S Plus and the next mid-range flagship from Motorola. The tech giant unveiled Moto G5S Plus in August. Moto G6 Plus mid-ranger most likely come in late-February, according to Android Verge.
Motorola probably launch the G6 Plus device at MWC 2018, according to reliable sources. The upcoming mid-ranger from Moto may come with many exclusive Features like 5.5 inch FullHD LCD Display, Snapdragon 630 Octa Core Chipset, Dual Rear Camera and so on.
The minutiae about the design of G6 Plus are yet to be officially disclosed, but some rumours say that it might be similar to G5S Plus. But some tech analysts claim that the next Mid-ranger from Moto will come with some radical design changes to increase the screen to body ratio and fit big screen in small body. Now we will round up some of the leaked and rumoured features and specs of Moto G6 Plus.
Exclusive Features of Moto G6 Plus
Moto G6 Plus Display and Resolution
Motorola unveiled the Moto G5 Plus with 5.2 inch IPS LCD Display with 1080p resolution. The next mid-ranger from Motorola may sport 5.5 inch IPS LCD Display with FHD resolution. So the resultant pixel density will be around 400. So the display of G6 Plus will appear gorgeous and images will appear crystal clear.
Brightness of Display and Colour temperature also will be improved in the upcoming Moto G. Motorola may reduce bezel size much in this mid-ranger to decrease body size. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 may act as Display protection. Probably Moto G6 Plus come with unibody design with Dustproof and Waterproof.
Processor and Ram
The Moto G6 Plus smart phone might be powered by Snapdragon 630 which is the latest best chipset for mid-rangers. Qualcomm recently announced SD 630 SoC which is built on 14nm FinFET process. Snapdragon 630 is more power efficient than its predecessor, according to Qualcomm.
Snapdragon 630 is an Octa core SoC with Eight cores of 64-bit, ARM Cortex A-53 clocked up to 2.2 Ghz. Due to 14nm process, Snapdragon 630 may draw less battery and also more powerful than Snapdragon 625. Since Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Android OS is supporting 64-bit cores in addition to 32-bit cores. So with 64-bit Snapdragon 630 chipset, processing of G6 Plus will be improved.
Adreno 508 GPU
Snapdragon 630 contains Adreno 508 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), which is about Thirty percent more powerful than its predecessor. Due to the improvements made to GPU, Snapdragon 630 can process graphics rich games and videos with ease. So with Moto G6 Plus, gaming lovers can enjoy gaming with better frame rate compared to Moto G5 Plus and G5S Plus. The Snapdragon 630 chipset also capable of 4K Video recording at 30fps and FHD video recording upto 120 fps.
Various improvements are made to the Camera Image sensor processor in the SD 630 like 2x Image Sensor Processor (ISP), Qualcomm Spectra 160 image sensor processor(14-bit), Qualcomm Clear Sight camera and so on. So Moto G6 Plus can capture videos and pictures much faster with more details than Moto G5 Plus.
X12 LTE Modem
The predecessor of Moto G6 Plus sports X9 LTE Modem which is a component of Snapdragon 625 chipset. The X9 LTE Modem supports Cat.13 download speeds and Cat.7 upload speeds.
So Moto G5S Plus and G5 Plus devices can attain the maximum LTE download speeds of 300 Mbps and maximum upload speeds of 150 Mbps only.
Now the chipset which will powers G6 Plus contains the X12 LTE modem and it is much faster than its predecessor. The X12 LTE Modem of Snapdragon 630 supports Cat. 12 downlink speeds of up to 600MBps and Cat. 13 uplink speeds of up to 150Mbps.
X12 LTE Modem also capable of 3x20Mhz Carrier aggregation in downlink and 2x20Mhz aggregation while uplink, so users can enjoy lightening fast LTE speeds. The modem in the SD 630 SoC LTE Dual Sim, Qualcomm upload+, Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) with LTE call continuity and HD, UltraHD voice features. So the Moto G6 Plus users can utilize HD Voice services and VoLTE services over supported networks.
The SD 630 chipset supports Wi-Fi standards 802.11ac/n/a/b/g and Wi-Fi bands 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz with the peak speed of 433Mbps.
Location services are crucial in navigation and emergency situations. The Snapdragon 630 chipset comes with the satellite systems support : GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS and SBAS. Advanced location Features like Low Power Geofencing and Tracking, Sensor-assisted Navigation are also present in Snapdragon 630 System on Chip (SoC).
Bluetooth 5.0 is another exciting feature of Moto G6 Plus. Previously, Moto G5S Plus and G5 Plus arrived with Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP and LE. With Bluetooth 5.0, range and transfer rate of data are massively increased. As Moto G6 Plus is coming with Android Oreo which has Bluetooth 5 support, users can use this feature straight from the box.
The superfast transfer speeds of Bluetooth 5.0 is more useful in Internet of Things (IoT) and transferring data wirelessly. Advanced Bluetooth headphones with Hi-Fi codecs support utilize the Bluetooth 5.0 technology to play audio with high quality and also use energy efficiently.
Moto G6 Plus Ram
Moto G5S Plus has arrived in two internal memory variants : 64GB and 32GB. The 32GB variant sports 3GB Ram while the 64GB variant boasts 4GB Ram. Higher the Ram, performance and Multi-tasking will go the next level and provide much better user experience. So this time Motorola may launch a third variant in addition to the usual storage variants.
According to some latest rumours, Moto G6 Plus might come in 128GB internal storage option with 6Gigs of Ram, along with routine 32GB and 64GB storage options. So the 128GB variant of Motorola Moto G6 Plus with 6GB of Ram will provide a whole new user experience. Multi-tasking management also might be improved in the upcoming mid-range device from Motorola. Thus, ultimately the new storage variant will offer next gen performance as good as flagship devices and fluid like multi-tasking. More details about the Ram in G6 Plus will be revealed soon.
Moto G6 Plus Camera
Motorola used 13MP Rear Camera with Sony IMX362 sensor in Moto G5 Plus and due to the Sony’s sensor with 1.4 micron Pixel size, Moto G5 Plus takes excellent shots. But in the rear Camera of Moto G5S Plus, the Lenovo owned company two Sony IMX258 sensors with 12MP resolution and 1.14 micron Pixel size. Although, because of Dual sensor setup, Bokeh effect (Background Blurring) has worked out to some extent but due to lesser pixel size, the quality of the image has gone down.
Some Moto G5S Plus users also complain about the shutter log due to which taking shots consumes more time in G5S Plus than its predecessor. Due to AutoHDR mode, daylight pictures are good, but in night time pictures, we can see noise and and low details. But colors are excellent in the pictures taken by Moto G5S Plus, they are well saturated and not oversaturated.
So in Moto G6 Plus, we hope not to see these drawbacks of Rear Camera of G5S Plus. Motorola may use the same Rear Dual Camera sensor setup on Moto G6 Plus but with a better Pixel Size and resolution. Probably, Moto G6 Plus will arrive with the Primary Camera containing two 14MP Sony Sensors with good Pixel size or 13MP and 14MP sensors combination.
In Moto G6 Plus, the problem of shutter log might be solved. So users can take shots continuously without any log. The low-light photography also will be improved in the next mid-ranger from Motorola.
Moto G6 Plus Battery
Nothing replaces a solid battery backup, albeit how much powerful the device is, a good battery needs to power it. Motorola consistently used the 3000mAh Li-Ion battery in Moto G4 Plus, Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5S Plus devices irrespective of their screen sizes and chipsets powering them. The screen size and the processor powering it affects the battery backup along with the battery capacity.
Moto G5 Plus did very good in battery tests but Moto G5S Plus has done average in battery life tests despite being powered by the same SoC. So it seems that the increased screen size affects the battery life of G5S Plus.
As the screen size of Moto G6 Plus will be in line with its predecessors and chipset powering it is built on the same 14nm process, we can predict that battery life of G6 Plus will be average only if Motorola used the same 3000mAh battery again.
So Motorola may increase the battery capacity in the forthcoming mid-ranger to improve battery life. There is a good chance to see Moto G6 Plus with 3200 mAh battery, but we have to wait till the official launch to confirm.
Quick Charge 4.0
The Snapdragon 630 SoC supports Quick Charge 4.0 support. The Quick Charge 4.0 is Twenty percent faster and Thirty percent more power efficient than its predecessor. Due to Quick Charge 3.0, Moto G5 Plus can charge from Zero percent to Hundred percent in about 90 minutes.
The Moto G6 Plus can charge upto 5 hours of battery life in just 5 minutes, due the Quick Charge 4.0. Perhaps, G6 Plus will charge at cooler temperatures because Quick Charge 4.0 charges at the temperature five degrees cooler than its predecessor. So that the battery longevity and life time will be improved.
Moto G6 Plus Fingerprint Sensor
Motorola introduced fingerprint sensor with Moto G4 Plus in Moto G series. The Moto G5 Plus and G5S Plus contain the Gesture capable fingerprint sensors. Moto G6 Plus will feature an improved fingerprint sensor over its predecessor. The next mid-ranger from Motorola may feature fingerprint sensor on the rear side to increase to screen to body ratio. The fingerprint sensor of Moto G6 Plus will work faster and also more secure.
Moto G6 Plus NFC
NFC (Near Field Communications) is a feature useful for making payments easily in a secure way. With Android Beam and NFC we can also transfer image/video files, contact data and Maps data between two NFC enabled smart phones easily. Currrntly, this feature is available only for High-end smartphones. Even the Moto Z flagship contains the NFC feature but some users have complained that it is not working well.
Previously, there were some rumours flown about the NFC feature in Moto G5 Plus. But after the debut, it was confirmed that NFC was absent in Moto G5 Plus.
NFC chip is present in the Snapdragon 630 chipset but it is upto Motorola whether to enable it or not. But we hope that Motorola will make the addition of this feature to the budget friendly yet powerful Moto G series with Moto G6 Plus.
In both Moto G5 Plus and G5 mid-rangers, Motorola used the water-repellent nano coating which protects from accidental water spills. But the successor of G5 Plus, may come with full water resistance. So Moto G6 Plus might be able to survive under water for a few minutes.
Moto G6 Plus Release Date
Previously, Motorola launched Moto G5 Plus and G5 devices in February 2017 at MWC 2017. In June, Motorola unveiled Moto G5S and G5S Plus with more polished design and improved Camera over Moto G5 and G5 Plus respectively. In August, G5S and G5S Plus arrived into the market through Amazon and are available to buy.
So it seems that Motorola is going to unveil a new Moto G device every six months, just like as Sony did with Xperia Z series. Thus, the Moto G6 Plus might be unveiled at MWC 2018 which will take place from February 26th to March 1st at Barcelona.
Motorola may start the shipping of Moto G6 Plus in the end of March 2018. The specific release dates of G6 Plus for each region will be revealed soon.
Moto G6 Plus Price
The Moto G5S Plus price starts from $350 in the US and €299 in Europe. So the next Moto G device might be priced slightly higher than these prices. Moto G6 Plus comes in two internal memory variants : 32GB and 64GB. The price of 32GB internal memory variant of G6 Plus might start from $360 in the US and €310 in Europe, while 64GB storage variant might cost up to $400 in the US. But the price of Moto G6 Plus will vary, according to carriers. In India, the Moto G6 Plus price may start from Rs. 16500/-.
